MichaeL can you tell me how I can heLp this project? I need exact things..When, where, how.. I will have to arrange my schedule for it coz i dont want to miss the simplest part of this project!
Halide, I appreciate your commitment and interest.
It has been requested of me, by one not currently in this group, to share my intentions of this project idea. I accepted readily as from conversation, there was clearly confusion and some upset being created around this project. I do not want any of you willing to participate to be confused.
Here it is/they are:
1. To generate a group of teens from the island of Cyprus, who participated in a program called the Cyprus Bold leaders program, and primarily from two large schools in Nicosia area representing both communities, (TMK & English School) to participate in the design and delivery of an "impossible project." To practice what it takes to operate a project in a community. (Where real projects occur)
2. To guide people in having an experience of influencing and impacting their environment.
3. To connect the two communities via two schools on the island.
4. To provide a "placemat" for some teens on Cyprus to share their ideas and frustrations and get real coaching.
5. To provide a place for some teens on Cyprus to have the practice of hearing NO hundreds of times and that not stopping them.
6. To provide a project for some teens on the island of Cyprus to practice their "voice"
7. To have people consider the possibility that by moving what were originally "memorials created by grieving family, and then used by "others" as propaganda and justification for hurtful words and actions, to the center of the buffer zone will return them to their rightful intention as memorials. . respectfully, with honor and dignity. As well as a testament to the opportunity Cypriots have at what it will take to "remember then change" so that the inevitable political partnerships of the future also have the possibility and opportunity to be grounded socially as well, as no political system is infinite, yet a social system can be.
8. So that a group of TSC and GSC teens at the same school can really integrate with each other.
9. To risk, to go for it. To challenge people. . .
10 to learn real Cypriot history. . .from the mouths of those who lost more then "things"
11. To do the "impossible" and to notice how much we are machines and mechanics versus gardens and gardeners.
12. To notice the internal voice that says "you cannot" and the external voices that nurture that internal thought!
13. To challenge the notion that there is a "reality" and that reality has little to no imagination, there fore no existence. To play an infinite game in a finite world.
14. To have fun!
15. To throw out an idea and see who says "yes" without having to KNOW or even HOW. . .who "chooses" over "decides"and then must face the mind killer of decision.
16. To have some teens who participated in funded camps by AMIDEAST and Fulbright remember what they learned in a Facing History and Ourselves Workshop about memorials, and put that into action, thereby justifying their random selection in a program.
17. Practicing enrollment, sharing, getting permission, going one step beyond where you normally stop, requesting and promising. . .BEING versus DOING. . .so you are Leaders of Substance NOW and not so called "children" waiting for your time. (Which has no promises of arriving)
Meet new people who may be very helpful and influential for your future
Be a cool thing to put on your UNI resume/application
What it is not intended to do:
1. have you stealing or moving anything!
2. Take up your education time
3. doing things you cannot without permission and support
4. be about DOING, which you all are masters at anyway.
5. last forever
