Design a city challenge, similar to your experiences in Europe.
You have until August 24 to design the morning game to be delivered on August 27
Begin:
Blackberries Cafe 26th and Welton
Use Light rail and 16th street mall buses
Use the Native American monument, east side of State Capital
Use the Korean/Nam memorial, ( Washington Memorial facsimile) in Civic Center park as well the new art museum and new city and county building art, ( the faces in front of building)
The big blue bear? The dancing Aliens? The rodeo rider statue on Broadway? The gateway bridge. . .
maybe have them find a politician. . .get a photo. . . etc. etc. . .make it fun, informative and educational, plus stretch them. . .
Let me know who is in the game from the team. . .we would likely need a few of you to be around it as well, so you may have to request a half day off from school.
Well alrighty then! Lets get it moving so that everyone knows when, where, and why.If we can set this day up sooner rather than later, things will turn out much better.
I really liked the challenge in Prague, when we had pictures, and questions because it REALLY made us interact with the people, instead of following a map. I think it would be great if they talked to Denver people and worked on their English. And what if we asked questions that Denver people would know but they wouldn't, like....
What is the elevation of Denver?
Who is Denver's current Mayor?
What is the name of Denver's baseball team?
Because they won't know, and they'll have to ask around.
what do you all think???
I also think we should send them to see the Blue Bear @ the Convention Center?
I agree that we should have questions. Then they can know a little more about the place they'll be living in. And yes, it definitely forces them to practice English and socialize with some Denverites.
Thought it was wonderful katie, great ideas going on there, but maybe we could throw in a fun element? Maybe as a miscellaneous place to visit, we brainstorm the most beautiful places we can think of downtown? You had some great places, but possibly find a place where even those who have never been here could enjoy the view?
katie, maybe the question can be something more about the history of colorado? and i don't know too much about denver but i'll try to make it on sunday.
Alright. History. I added a picture of Confluence park, because Denver was basically founded at the Confluence of the Cherry Creek and the Platt river, during the gold rush. The questions are what two rivers create the confluence and why is the confluence important to Denver's history. Also in confluence park, there's a mural under the highway of a Native American man, a white and and a Mexican man and I told them to (on a piece of paper) draw what they would look like on the mural. You guys can brainstorm what you think should be changed and give me a call! I printed out the entire set of questions and pictures for each team, glued them on paper (of their team color) and put them in an envelope that i colored and laminated. Just let me know what y'all think. I can't make it on Sunday, I'm really sorry but something came up and I'm not going to be able to make it!
lots of love.
