Seeing as I'm actually in the CR, speaking the language and interacting daily with Czech people, I was wondering if there are some things that people in the US would like to know, that would be easier for me to research and answer!
Hmm well, the culture is not hugely different from the U.S, so, just common courtesy. Here its customary to adress people by their degree , such as Dr. Novakova, even for non-medical drs.
What czech people dislike is people thinking that the norm is speaking english and that czech is a freak language, well, at least older people, so just a few words in czech, like hello, how are you, can show the natives that you're trying, which they really appreciate. They also are a people that feel proud of their heritage, and Ive heard them complain about American patronizing attitudes, because they used to be opressed by the USSR and what not.
As for gifts, I really dont know, I think that whatever it would be appropriate to give to a US family would be ok. It is, however, customary to take off your shoes when you enter a home !
